The Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery in the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University opens The Art of John "Crash" Matos Thursday, January 28 with a reception from 6-8 p.m. in the Gallery. The exhibition continues through February 28. John Matos, whose art weaves together his roots of graffiti and tagging growing up in the South Bronx with the immediacy of Abstract Expressionism and the bold colors of Pop Art will attend the opening. In addition, five Bridgeport high school students (two from Central, three from Bassick) who joined the artist for three days in January to create parts of a mural that is part of the installation, will be at the opening. Matos' career spans over three decades and began with spray-painted murals on subway trains in New York City in the mid 70s. His work now appears in renowned galleries, museums and private collections across the country and all over the world. The artist's daughter, Anna Matos, is a junior in Art History at Fairfield University and has been a participant in mounting the show.
