Top Tennis Players to Battle for $1,250,000 in New Haven

Pilot Pen TennisPilot Pen Tennis Tournament is bound to be very exciting this year with the top men and women tennis payers in the world coming to New Haven for ten days of competition for over $1,250,000. In addition to a great setting for watching world class tennis, the event is full of hot happenings for everyone - Kids Day, Girl Scout Day, Ladies Day, music concerts, rock climbing, etc.

Top Ranked & Rising Stars

The tournament features 4 of the top 10 ranked women players in the field including Lindsay Davenport (ranked No. 1). On the men's side former world no. 1 and three time Grand Slam champion Gustavo Kuerten joins Nikolay Davydenko (No. 6) and several other top 20 players.

The Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament presented by Michelob ULTRA is managed by tournament director Anne Worcester who has a knack for attracting not just the top tennis players but adding excitement to the event by choosing true rising stars. This year is no exception with two rising star from France - Tatiana Golovin on the women's side and Richard Gasquet on the mens (two of many to watch this year).

Lindsay Davenport Returns for Sixth Appearance

Davenport, 29, whose injured back forced her to withdraw from Stanford and San Diego, has reworked her summer schedule to include a sixth appearance at Pilot Pen Tennis. The current world No.1 will look to add the Pilot Pen as her third title of the year after four consecutive finals appearances from 1999 to 2003.

"I'm looking forward to returning to New Haven," said Lindsay Davenport. "I've had so much success here and the fans have always been so supportive of me, it's one of my favorite tournaments to play."

Davenport is having a stellar 2005 season with an impressive run of five consecutive finals appearances, which included titles at Dubai and Amelia Island. She also garnered quarterfinal appearances at Charleston and the French Open; and a finals appearance at Wimbledon. Davenport has 47 career WTA tour singles titles, including three Grand Slam wins (U.S. Open 1998; Wimbledon 1999; Australian Open 2000).

"Lindsay has always been a big draw at the Pilot Pen," said Anne Worcester, tournament director. "She has been an integral part in the success of this tournament over the years and it's especially appropriate that she will be a part of this year's first-ever men's and women's combined event."

Davenport joins world No. 3 Amelie Mauresmo; No. 6 Elena Dementieva; and No. 9 Nadia Petrova as the top-ranked players in the women's field at the Pilot Pen.

Take Exit 57 (Derby Ave. / Rt. 34 East). Follow to Forest Rd. and take a left. At Chapel St., take a right. At intersection with Central Ave., turn left and follow signs to parking.

Take Exit 59. At end of ramp, take a right onto Rt. 69 & 63. At second light, veer left onto Whalley Ave. (Rt. 69 East). At Ella T. Grasso Blvd. (Rt. 10), take a right. At fourth light, take a right onto Chapel St. At intersection with Central Ave., turn left and follow signs to parking.
